In-Home Services & Supports

In-home services means, receiving assistance with your daily activities while staying in the comfort of your own home. It may be hard to accept, most of us will require some type of care assistance at some point in our lives.

In-Home Choices

In-home support can be an alternative to assisted living or nursing facility care.  There are many providers of in-home services and different types of services available.  Some of these include:

  • Personal Care: Personal Care services help with activities such as dressing, bathing, medication reminders or meal preparation.  Some people may need just a few hours of personal care per week or a few hours of care per day.
  • Household Maintenance: If you’re finding it hard to keep up with daily chores, such as laundry, shopping, gardening, and housekeeping services. If you’re having trouble staying on top of bills and appointments, financial and healthcare management services may also be helpful.
  • Day Programs: also known as adult daycare services can help you keep busy during the day, while providing a break for caregivers. Some daycare programs are primarily social, while others provide limited health services or specialize in conditions such as early-stage Dementia.
  • Home modifications: Home modifications can go a long way towards keeping your home comfortable and accessible. Modifications can include things such as grab bars in the shower, ramps to avoid or minimize the use of stairs, or even installing a new bathroom on the ground floor.
  • Transportation: Transportation is a key issue for older adults. Maybe you’re finding it hard to drive or don’t like to drive at night. Having access to buses, rideshare apps, reduced fare taxis, and transportation services can help extend your independence.
  • Health care: Some healthcare services can be provided at home by trained professionals, such as occupational therapists, social workers, or home health nurses. To learn more, check with your health insurance to see what they can cover, but keep in mind that you may have to cover some out-of-pocket cost for these services.

Looking at at all these options may be stressful because there can be many different options. Remember, you are not alone you have a friendly Resource Navigator that can help you explore your options.

Community Supports

In addition to in-home services, community supports are available.  These can help keep you connect and provide new opportunities for you.  Examples of community supports that may be available include:

  • Chronic disease self management programs
  • Transportation and meal services
  • Senior Center activities and programs
  • Adaptive Recreation programs
  • Job Training and Coaching

Often people may combine both in home services and community supports to reach their goals and care needs.
