You can Detect Depression.
Depression is one of the most common, and also the most treatable, of stress-related illnesses. One in four women and one in 10 men are likely to experience depression in their lifetimes. It can develop at any age.
Depression is treatable, if recognized. But many people
don't know they have it and, therefore, don't get treatment. Do you or someone
you love suffer from:
•
Noticeable changes in appetite, either eating too much or too little.
•
Noticeable change of sleeping patterns, sleeping too much or too little.
•
Loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities.
•
Overwhelming feelings of sadness and grief.
•
Loss of energy, feeling tired all the time.
•
Unexplained physical symptoms, such as headaches or stomach aches.
•
Feelings of worthlessness.
•
Persistent feelings of hopelessness.
•
Inappropriate feelings of guilt.
•
Not able to concentrate or think clearly.
•
Thinking about death or suicide.
•
Disturbed thinking; beliefs that are not based on reality.
If you've checked four or more of the above symptoms of
depression, it's time to get some professional advice. Call the Senior Bridges Program
at 775-356-1279 or 775-356-4071 for a free, confidential assessment.
